But my main question is why the changes. The M16A3 was made at the same time as the M16A2. The only difference between the two is that the A3 retained the full auto trigger of the A1 while the A2 came with a burst trigger. All exterior parts are identical. The A3 only saw limited use by special operation units, and this was primarily in the early/mid 80'ies.
